Best Seo Services in San Diego
Anyone can grow a healthy site. Ask what they do with a broken one.
Ask about the hardest case, not the ideal one
San Diego has roughly 1.39 million residents as of 2023 and a business base that has been through several generations of digital marketing providers. A large share of the sites here are not clean starting points — they carry the residue of previous engagements, and a meaningful number have been actively damaged: purchased links from a decade ago, auto-generated location pages, a migration that lost half the URLs, a penalty nobody diagnosed.
Sales conversations do not address this. They describe what a firm would do with a well-built site and a reasonable budget, which is the easy case and the one every firm can talk about plausibly. It also tells you almost nothing, because the plans are broadly the same and the differences do not show.
No firm can honestly call itself the best. But recovery work is where competence actually separates, because it requires diagnosis rather than activity — and asking about it works even if your own site is perfectly healthy. It is a question about method, and the answers vary enormously.
The question, and what a good answer contains
Ask: "A new client comes to you with traffic down sixty percent after a rebuild. What do you do in week one?" Then listen for whether the answer is a diagnosis or a plan.
A good answer starts with the URLs. The overwhelmingly most common cause of a post-rebuild collapse is old addresses not mapped to new ones. The first step is to obtain the previous URL list — from Search Console, from the old sitemap, from an archive if necessary — and check what each one now returns. A firm that names this first has done it before.
Then indexation, then tracking. Is the site accessible to crawlers at all, or did a staging configuration ship with everything blocked? Is the analytics even recording correctly, or is the reported drop partly a measurement failure? Both are common, both are quick to check, and both change the diagnosis entirely.
A good answer explicitly defers content. The wrong response to a traffic collapse is to start publishing. If a firm’s week-one plan involves a content calendar, they are describing their standard offering rather than diagnosing your problem.
On genuine penalties, ask what they would not do. Mass link disavowal is frequently proposed and frequently harmful — disavowing links that were never a problem removes signals that were helping. A firm that reaches for that immediately is guessing.
The follow-up worth asking: "Have you ever taken on a recovery and failed?" Everyone with real experience has. What you learn is whether they can describe the point at which they concluded it, and what they told the client — which is the same judgement they will apply to your engagement when something is not working.
On price: basic plans start at $1,000, published, moving with the state of what exists. Recovery work is normally scoped as a bounded audit first, because quoting an ongoing retainer before diagnosing a damaged site means one of us is guessing.

San Diego industries we work with
San Diego County’s economy leans on defense and military, biotechnology, and tourism, and damage presents differently in each.
Defense and military. Contractor sites are frequently rebuilt for compliance or rebranding reasons with no attention to URLs, and because search traffic was never large, the loss goes unnoticed for a year. The recovery here is almost purely redirect archaeology, and it is usually very effective once someone actually does it.
Biotechnology. Very low volume and very high value per visitor, which makes percentage-based traffic reporting close to meaningless. Damage in this sector often shows up as the loss of a handful of specific technical terms rather than as an aggregate decline — and a firm that only looks at totals will not see it at all.
Tourism. Heavy seasonality makes diagnosis genuinely hard: a decline may be the season, the market, or a real regression. This is where the change log and year-over-year comparison matter most, and where a firm that reaches for a content programme without establishing the cause will spend your budget on the wrong thing for two quarters.
Downtown and the Gaslamp, La Jolla, North Park and Carmel Valley also behave as distinct local markets, and damage confined to one of them is invisible in a city-wide view.
What is included
- A bounded diagnostic audit before any ongoing commitment, on a damaged site
- URL mapping checked first: previous addresses recovered and their current responses verified
- Indexation and crawl accessibility confirmed before anything is attributed to content
- Tracking verified, so a measurement failure is not mistaken for a traffic failure
- Content work deliberately deferred until the diagnosis is complete
- No mass disavowal or speculative removal without evidence of actual harm
- A written record of every change with its before-state, so anything can be reversed
- Search Console, Analytics, and Business Profile owned by you, in your name

Proof
Held to the same question: we publish no case studies with round-number percentage gains and an anonymous client — recovery numbers are the most cherry-picked figures in this industry, because every firm has one dramatic before-and-after. Ask on a call and we will go through real recoveries with real context, including one we could not fix and what we told the client.
What we will commit to in writing: a bounded diagnostic scope, a ranked findings list, tracking that demonstrably fires, and a monthly report you can audit line by line. What we will never commit to is a ranking position, in any tense. The full process is here.
Questions from San Diego business owners
How do I evaluate an SEO company in San Diego?
Ask what they would do in week one for a client whose traffic dropped sixty percent after a rebuild. A firm that has done recovery work starts with the URLs — recovering the old address list and checking what each now returns — then indexation and tracking, and explicitly defers content. A firm whose week-one answer involves a content calendar is describing its standard package rather than diagnosing anything.
How much do SEO services cost in San Diego?
Basic plans start at $1,000, moving with the state of what already exists and how many services or areas you target. On a damaged site we would begin with a bounded audit at a fixed price rather than an ongoing retainer, because quoting before diagnosing means guessing. Full pricing here.
Do you have an office in San Diego?
No. Our office is in Salt Lake City and we work with San Diego businesses remotely. We do not list addresses we do not occupy — and in local search particularly, publishing an address you do not hold creates a problem rather than an advantage.
Our traffic dropped after a redesign. Is it recoverable?
Usually a good deal of it, and the fix is often unglamorous. The most common cause is old URLs not mapped to their new equivalents, which is diagnosable in a day and fixable in a few more. Before assuming anything worse, get the previous URL list from Search Console and check what each one returns now. If they are 404ing, you have found it, and it is the best possible answer because it is the cheapest to fix.
