Professional is an operational standard, not a visual one

Patching, on a schedule. Dependencies and platform components get updated on a stated cadence rather than when something breaks. The overwhelming majority of compromised small-business sites are running a known vulnerability with a patch that has been available for months. This is maintenance, not security expertise, and it is the single highest-value routine in the list.
Backups that have been restored. A backup nobody has ever restored is a belief, not a control. The test is whether the restore has actually been performed once, end to end, and how long it took. Ask any provider that question directly; the answers separate people quickly.
Monitoring with an alert attached. Uptime checks, and — more useful for most businesses — a check that the contact form still delivers. Silent form failure is the most expensive fault a service business website can have, because there is no error, no bounce, and no complaint. The enquiries simply stop, and the first symptom is a slow quarter.
A written support window. Not “we’re always around” — a stated response time, what counts as urgent, and who answers. The value of this is entirely in it being written down before you need it.
Ownership of all four assets. Code, domain registration, hosting account, and analytics property, each in your name. This is the operational one people mistake for a legal detail: when a vendor relationship ends badly, the recovery time is determined entirely by who holds the accounts.
Documentation a successor can use. Where it is hosted, what it depends on, how to deploy a change. If the site can only be maintained by the person who built it, you have a dependency rather than an asset.
Basic plans start at $1,000, published and national. None of the above is a premium tier — a build that omits it is not cheaper, it has simply deferred the cost to whoever handles the incident.
