Professional Web Designer in Houston

A straight answer about what we do not do, before you find out the expensive way.

Professional means being willing to decline

Houston has about 2.31 million residents as of 2023 and an economy built on specialised contracting. In energy, medicine, and aerospace, the firms that last are the ones that know the edge of their competence and say so — a fabricator who takes a job outside their tolerance range does not get a reputation for versatility, they get a failed part and a lost client.

Web design has almost no equivalent norm. Nearly every designer will say yes to nearly everything, because the alternative is turning away revenue, and because the client usually cannot tell whether the work was inside anyone’s competence until it is finished. The result is a familiar Houston story: a marketing site built by someone who had never handled an industrial specification, a booking system attempted by someone who had never integrated one, a project quietly abandoned two-thirds through.

So the definition of professional worth applying is the one this city already applies to its contractors: does this person know the boundary of what they do well, and will they tell you where it is? That is precisely what a site a relative built lacks — not skill necessarily, but any mechanism for declining something beyond it.

What we decline, and why it saves you money

We do not do photography or video. If your premises, equipment, or people are the credential — which in industrial Houston they usually are — commission that locally. We will tell you what to shoot and in what format so it loads properly rather than arriving as a folder of six-megabyte files.

We do not do brand strategy. Naming, positioning exercises, and identity work are real disciplines and not ours. Most businesses buying a fifteen-page service site do not need them and should not be defaulted into paying for them.

We do not build complex web applications. A marketing site with a CRM handoff, payments, or a booking system is squarely what we do. A custom operational platform with user accounts, permissions, and business logic is a different discipline with different failure modes, and you want someone who does that full time.

We do not manage advertising campaigns. We will build landing pages that work for paid traffic and make sure the tracking is right. Running the campaign itself is a separate specialism.

We do not guarantee rankings, ever. Nobody controls the algorithm, and the reliable way to meet such a guarantee is to target a phrase nobody searches.

We will tell you when the project is too small for us. If your budget is genuinely a few hundred dollars we will say so and point you at a builder platform that will serve you for now. That is a smaller invoice for us and an honest answer for you.

Why this is a saving rather than a limitation. Work taken on outside competence does not usually fail visibly — it fails slowly, over-runs, and gets handed to someone else to finish, at which point you pay twice. The declined conversation costs you an afternoon. The accepted one costs a project.

What we do do: marketing and service sites that load fast, convert, measure properly, and belong to you. Basic plans start at $1,000, published and national, rising with page count, integrations, and whether we write the content at roughly $150 to $300 a page.

Houston industries we work with

Harris County’s economy runs on energy and oil and gas, healthcare and medical research, and aerospace — and the boundary question comes up in each.

Energy and oil and gas. The site itself is usually straightforward: capability, safety record, coverage, contact. Where projects go wrong is at the edges — someone attempting an integration with a field service or dispatch system that exposes data awkwardly if at all. That work is real and should be scoped by someone who has seen the system, not assumed into a website quote.

Healthcare and medical research. Anything where a patient submits information deserves an explicit conversation about where it goes, and anything resembling a clinical claim belongs to your own review process rather than to a designer’s judgement. We build the site and document the data paths; we do not advise on what you may claim, and a designer who offers to is overreaching.

Aerospace. Capability content has to be precise, which means it should be written or verified by someone who knows your processes and tolerances. We will structure it, make it findable, and tell you where a statement is too vague to be useful — but a marketing writer approximating specifications is exactly the failure this page is about.

Downtown, The Heights, Uptown and the Energy Corridor also support very different businesses, and one page written for all of them speaks clearly to none.

Proof

On results: we publish no case studies with round-number percentage lifts and an anonymous client. They cannot be verified, which is why they are written that way. Ask on a call and we will walk through real projects with real context, including work we took on that we should have declined and what it taught us.

What we will commit to in writing: a fixed price against an agreed scope, a launch date, a support response window, tracking that demonstrably fires, and a monthly report you can read in five minutes. The full process is here, week by week.

Questions from Houston business owners

How much does a professional web designer cost in Houston?

Basic plans start at $1,000, rising with page count, integrations, and whether we write the content. The price is national — there is no Houston rate, because the work does not take longer here. Full breakdown here.

What do you not do?

Photography and video, brand strategy, complex web applications with user accounts and business logic, and advertising campaign management. We also will not guarantee rankings, and we will tell you if your budget is better spent on a builder platform for now. Each of those is a real discipline; taking them on because they were adjacent to a website is how projects over-run and get handed to a second firm to finish.

Do you have an office in Houston?

No. Our office is in Salt Lake City and we work with Houston businesses remotely, over video calls and shared documents. We do not list addresses we do not occupy, so it is better said plainly here than discovered later.

How do we tell whether a designer is out of their depth?

Ask what they would not take on, and listen for whether the answer is specific. A designer who names three or four things clearly has thought about the boundary. One who says they handle everything either works with a large team — ask who — or has not encountered the edge yet. Then ask what they had to learn on their last project outside their usual sector; a real answer is a good sign.
