Affordable Website Design in Columbus
The build price and the yearly cost of owning it, both stated before you decide.
We publish our prices. See what moves the number.
Comparing quotes?
Three things worth checking on every quote you have, ours included:
- Who writes the content, and is it in the price?
- Is conversion tracking configured, or just analytics pasted in?
- Who owns the code, domain, and accounts at the end?
What is included — and what usually is not
Compare this against the cheapest quote you have. The gap is rarely in the design.
| Included with us | Typical budget build |
|---|---|
| An itemised annual running cost, given before you commit rather than discovered in year two | Template you will recognise on three competitor sites |
| No licensed page builder, no per-seat fees, no plugin subscriptions that ratchet up | Analytics pasted in, no conversions defined |
| Hosting and domain in your accounts, billed to you directly, so nothing expires on a card you cannot see | Forms email an inbox nobody monitors |
| A written scope agreed before the build, fixing the price rather than estimating it | Unoptimised images, slow on cellular |
| Custom design instead of a template two competitors in the Short North already licensed | Built on a platform the site cannot leave |
| Mobile-first build with a real speed budget | No redirect mapping — rankings reset at launch |
| Forms wired into your CRM and tested end to end before launch | Support ends when the invoice clears |
| Conversion tracking configured and verified firing, not merely installed | Template you will recognise on three competitor sites |
| Full ownership at handover — code, domain, hosting account, and analytics in your name | Analytics pasted in, no conversions defined |

Affordable · price transparency
The build price, then the annual price
Basic plans start at $1,000. Published, national, and the same for a Franklin County business as anywhere else. That is the build.
What moves the build up. Page count first — a five-page site and a thirty-page site are different information architectures rather than the same one scaled. Then integrations: a CRM, payments, booking, or a system with an awkward API. Then content, at roughly $150 to $300 a page if we write it rather than you. Agreed in writing before anything is built.
Now the part that usually goes unmentioned. Every website has an annual cost, whoever builds it. Hosting for a site this size is modest. The domain renews yearly. An SSL certificate should cost you nothing — if someone is billing you for one, ask why. Beyond that, the honest variables are whether your platform charges licence fees and how much maintenance you actually buy.
Which is why we do not build on a licensed platform. No per-seat fee, no page-builder subscription, no plugin renewals that ratchet upward each year. That decision does nothing for the build price and a great deal for the third year, and it is invisible on a quote comparison, which is precisely why it gets skipped.
Ask every provider these three questions. What will this cost me annually, itemised? Which of those charges are yours and which are third parties billing me directly? And what happens to the site if I stop paying you specifically? The third one is the important one. If the answer is that the site goes away, you were renting.
The hidden cost of the low-bid build is a subscription platform where the monthly fee looked small and the exit costs you the entire site — no export worth having, no code, and a rebuild from scratch whenever you leave. Over three years that is routinely more than a build you own outright, and at the end of it you own nothing.
Payment. Half at start and half at launch, split further on larger projects if you ask.
Almost nobody quotes you year two
Columbus has roughly 913,000 residents as of 2023 and a business base — insurance, logistics, higher education — where people are perfectly comfortable reading a total cost of ownership. They do it for vehicles, for software, for warehouse space. Then they buy a website on a single build number and discover the rest a year later.
The rest is real and it is not large, which is exactly why leaving it out is so effective. Hosting. The domain renewal. An SSL certificate, if it is not included. Plugin or platform licences. The odd hour of maintenance. None of it is dramatic on its own, and together it is the difference between a site that quietly runs and a site that quietly stops — usually by expiring on a card nobody updated.
So this page publishes both numbers: what it costs to build and what it costs to keep. A cheap build with an unexamined annual cost is not a cheaper website, it is the same website with part of the invoice deferred and hidden.

Columbus industries we work with
Franklin County’s economy leans on insurance and finance, logistics and distribution, and higher education, and the running-cost question matters differently in each.
Insurance and finance. Published copy frequently passes through compliance review, which makes the maintenance line the one to examine. If every wording change requires a paid developer hour, the review cycle becomes expensive as well as slow, and in practice the content simply stops being updated. Editability is a cost control here, not a convenience.
Logistics and distribution. Columbus sits on a genuinely national distribution footprint and the buyers are operational people checking capability against a requirement — capacity, coverage, equipment, hours. What they need rarely changes, so the annual cost should be close to pure hosting. If a quote for this kind of site carries a large recurring fee, ask precisely what it buys.
Higher education. Selling to institutions is procurement work: registrations, contract vehicles, and verifiable credentials decide whether you are considered. Institutional buyers also frequently ask who controls the domain and hosting, because they have been burned by vendor-held assets before. Having those in your own name is a straightforward answer to a question you will be asked.
Downtown, the Short North, German Village and Easton also support different customer bases, and one generic city page written for all of them speaks clearly to none.
How the project runs
Audit
We review what you have now and where enquiries are being lost. You keep the findings either way.
Scope
Fixed price, fixed deliverables, and a launch date, all in writing before work starts.
Build
Design, build, tracking, and follow-up wired together and tested end to end.
Launch
Redirects mapped so you keep your rankings, every form and phone link checked by hand.
On results: no anonymous case studies, no percentage lifts, no logos we do not have permission to use. Those figures cannot be checked, which is why they are so common in this industry. Ask on a call and we will walk through real projects with real context, including the ones that underperformed.
What we do commit to in writing: a fixed build price against an agreed scope, an itemised annual cost, a launch date, conversion tracking that fires, and a monthly report you can read in five minutes. The full process is documented here.
Questions from Columbus business owners
How much does website design cost in Columbus?
Basic plans start at $1,000 to build, rising with page count, integrations, and whether we write the content. Separately, we give you an itemised annual running cost before you commit — hosting, domain renewal, and any maintenance you choose to buy. The build price is national and does not vary by city. Full breakdown here.
What does the site cost us every year after launch?
Hosting, the domain renewal, and whatever maintenance you decide to buy — itemised for your specific build before you commit. There are no licence or per-seat fees because we do not build on a licensed platform. Hosting and domain sit in your own accounts and are billed to you directly, so nothing can quietly expire on a card you have no visibility of.
Do you have an office in Columbus?
No. Our office is in Salt Lake City and we work with Columbus businesses remotely, over video calls and shared documents. We do not list addresses we do not occupy, so it is better stated here than discovered later.
What happens to the site if we stop working with you?
Nothing. It keeps running. The code, domain, hosting account, and analytics property are all in your name from handover, and there is no licence to lapse or platform to be locked out of. That question is worth asking every provider you are considering — when the honest answer is that the site goes away, you were renting it rather than owning it, and the monthly figure should be read in that light.
